Nigeria’s men’s basketball team, the D’Tigers, remains anchored at the 42nd spot globally and 6th in Africa, according to the latest FIBA rankings update.

Despite a strong showing at the recently concluded AfroBasket Qualifiers, where the team notched three convincing wins, their position in the world standings has not shifted.

The qualifiers showcased Nigeria’s talent and determination, but it wasn’t enough to climb the rankings ladder. Meanwhile, Mali made waves across the continent, leaping from 18th to 12th in the African standings, marking the most significant jump in the latest release.

The top five African teams continue to assert their dominance, with South Sudan leading the pack as the No. 1 ranked team on the continent. Ivory Coast follows in second, trailed by Angola in third, Tunisia in fourth, and Egypt rounding out the top five.

Meanwhile, USA leads the global rankings, European powerhouses Serbia and Germany are second and third respectively.

Looking ahead, the D’Tigers have their sights set on the upcoming AfroBasket Championship, having already secured their qualification.
