Russian President Vladimir Putin has expressed optimism about the recent contacts between Russia and the US, stating that “not everyone is pleased” with the efforts to normalize ties. Putin claimed that “Western elites” are attempting to disrupt the process, but remained hopeful about the prospects of improved relations.
Speaking at the Russian Federal Security Service headquarters in Moscow, Putin praised the Trump administration’s approach to global affairs, saying “the current US partners demonstrate pragmatism and a realistic approach, moving beyond stereotypes.” He also reiterated Moscow’s readiness for peace talks on the Ukrainian settlement, including discussions with Europe on a common security system that considers the interests of all parties.
Putin’s remarks coincided with US-Russia talks in Istanbul, focused on removing obstacles in diplomatic mission work. He instructed intelligence services to thwart “attempts by Western elites” to interfere with dialogue between Moscow and Washington.
