The bandits gathered individuals from a community in Dioundiou on the night of February 22-23 and opened fire, killing 16 people
Sixteen people have been killed in two separate attacks in the southwest area of Niger, according to state radio. The attackers are armed bandits.
Despite the fact that the culprits have not been identified, the attacks were comparable to the terrorist raids that have been plaguing the central Sahel region over the past few months.
The bandits gathered individuals from a community in Dioundiou on the night of February 22-23 and opened fire, killing 14 people, according to a statement that was broadcast on state radio on Wednesday.
Two nights after, two people were murdered by assailants in a neighboring town.
Authorities in Niger claim that the region surrounding Dioundiou, which shares a border with both Nigeria and Benin, is a safe haven for jihadist organizations.
It is traversed by a pipeline that spans 2,000 kilometers, which is approximately 1,200 miles, which transports oil from Niger to Benin.
