The All Progressives Congress (APC) has clarified that former Kaduna State Governor, Nasir El-Rufai, voluntarily missed the party’s National Executive Council (NEC) meeting.
According to APC National Publicity Secretary, Felix Morka, El-Rufai had the right to attend the meeting as a NEC member but chose not to.
The NEC meeting, held at the party’s national secretariat in Abuja, was well-attended by top party leaders, including President Bola Tinubu, Vice President Kashim Shetimma, Senate President Goodwill Akpabio, and Speaker of the House of Representatives Tajudeen Abbas.
El-Rufai’s absence comes after he criticized the APC for lacking internal democracy and failing to adhere to its constitution. He had also claimed that he didn’t receive an invitation to the NEC meeting, despite the APC spokesman stating that notices were sent to all party leaders, including El-Rufai.
Morka emphasized that El-Rufai’s absence was not compulsory, implying that he could have attended if he wanted to. However, it’s unclear whether El-Rufai is a member of the NEC, as Morka expressed doubts about his membership status.
This development highlights the ongoing intentions within the APC, El-Rufai’s criticisms sparking concerns about the party’s internal dynamics.
