
Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, has received the report of the Committee on the Management and Disbursement of the Bodija Explosion Relief Fund, with a promise to review and implement the recommendations without delay.
The explosion, which occurred in the Adeyi area of Old Bodija, damaged about 58 houses and left 77 residents injured. Makinde, represented by his deputy, Bayo Lawal, described the incident as “a tragic and avoidable” one.
Lawal, who chaired the committee, highlighted the government’s swift response to the disaster, deploying emergency and post-explosion support services. He emphasized the need for residents to remain security-conscious, saying, “Immediately after the explosion… the state government took immediate steps to mitigate the damage.”
The deputy governor assured that the relief fund report would be promptly acted upon, stating, “On behalf of His Excellency, I want to assure you that this report will be reviewed quickly and its recommendations implemented without delay.”
The report, presented by retired Commissioner of Police, Fatai Owoseni, is compiled into four volumes, containing detailed recommendations on the disbursement and management of the relief fund.
The President of the Bodija Estate Residents Association, Muyiwa Bamgbose, expressed hope for a swift implementation of the report, saying, “We carefully assessed the level of impact on each individual and made appropriate recommendations.”
