On Wednesday, February 26, officials reported 46 deaths in a Sudanese military aircraft crash in Omdurman.

At least 10 people were injured when the Antonov aircraft crashed in a populated region on February 25, according to the government-run Khartoum Media Office.

The health ministry raised the first death toll of 19. Military says plane crashed while taking off from Wadi Sayidna air base north of Omdurman, a sister city of Khartoum.

According to the media office, the crash destroyed multiple Karrari residences.

The military stated that military and civilian victims were involved, but it did not release crash figures or details.

The health ministry reported that several victims’ bodies were taken to Omdurman’s Nau Hospital.

Local reports said the plane crashed over Karrari’s Al-Thawra neighborhood on its way to Port Sudan, the military-backed government’s headquarters.

Residents reported loud explosions and dense smoke and dust over Omdurman. The Sudan Tribune said that the airplane carried high-ranking military leaders, although the military has not acknowledged this.
