Chairmen have issued press releases this morning instructing their workers to resume by Wednesday at the latest

A 72-hour resumption order has been given by the reinstated chairmen to local government workers in Osun State, according to the All-Progressives Congress (APC) in the State, which has publicly publicized this information.

Workers in the local government were subjected to coercion by the APC, which claimed that any staff of the local government who did not show up for work on Wednesday would be terminated from their post.

IREPORT247NEW reports that the reinstated chairmen of the APC returned to the Local Government Secretariat on Monday morning, following the directive issued by the Osun State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) on Sunday via the party’s platform.

On the other hand, the local government chairmen and councillors who were elected on the platform of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), which is currently in power, were sworn in on Sunday, February 23, after having been elected on Saturday, February 22.

Governor Adeleke Order

Governor Ademola Adeleke had earlier instructed freshly elected chairmen to defer resumption in order to avoid conflicts with those who are reportedly occupying the offices with the backing of the police.

Adeleke said, “I urge you and your councilors to please stay away from the council secretariats to avoid any clash with those whom the police had aided to forcefully occupy the local government secretariats.

“An Osun State High Court had affirmed the vacancies in both the Chairman and Councilors positions in all of Osun State Local Governments before your election on the 22nd February 2025.

“We will, therefore, rely on the judiciary to ensure a peaceful removal of those illegally occupying the local government secretariats. Please be patient and always abide by the rule of law.”

NLC Order

The Osun State Chapter of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) also reiterated that members will not resume their duties at the local governments until peace is restored to the councils.

Comrade Christopher Arapasopo, the chairperson of the Osun National Labour Congress, issued a statement on Sunday in which he reaffirmed the earlier direction issued by the union to LG workers to refrain from going to work.

The statement read, “The Osun State Council of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) strongly affirm her earlier release notifying all Local Government Area Workers in the State to withdraw their services as a result of the political upheaval within their workplaces still subsist, while continuing in their prayers for the state.

“This release further reiterates that our members safety at work is of high priority and we will not allow our members to work in an atmosphere of insecurity.

“The Osun State Council of the NLC remains resolute in its commitment to defending the rights and interests of workers and the masses.

“We shall not be cowed or intimidated by the desperate attempts to silence us. We stand firm in our resolve to uphold justice, fairness, and the rule of law in our beloved state.”

Former Special Adviser on Education to former Governor Adegboyega Oyetola, Jamiu Olawumi, responded by saying that the chairmen and council members had ordered local government workers to report back to work by Wednesday at the latest.

According to him, the officials went back to work in each of the thirty local government areas.

Jamiu said, “All chairmen and councillors have resumed in all local governments and area councils in Osun State, including Irewole Local Government.

“Most of the chairmen have issued press releases this morning instructing their workers to resume by Wednesday at the latest.

“After Wednesday, if they fail to return, their employment status will be determined. The ultimatum stands at 72 hours,” he added.
