The Federal University Dutsinma in Katsina State was closed down on Monday by the administration in response to the violent demonstrations that were held by students in response to the reported murder of a fellow student.

It has been reported that members of the Civilian Joint Task Force that were working in the region allegedly shot two students, resulting in the death of one of the kids.

“Some officials of the CJTF shot two students in error, thinking that they were bandits’ informants,” stated a source who spoke confidentially under the condition that they remain anonymous.

Two students were shot; one died instantly and the other is still receiving treatment at a local hospital.

Since yesterday, when the incident occurred, students in Dutsinma have been participating in violent protests, taking to the streets and vandalizing and burning cars, the source explained.

In a statement released on Monday, the FUDMA Senate has ordered students to take a one-week mid-semester break and announced the school’s temporary closure.

The statement read, “The Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Armaya’u Hamisu Bichi, announced the decision of the Senate and advised the students to leave campus before 6.00 pm Monday, 24th February 2025.

“The management wishes the students a happy and peaceful mid-semester break.”

The incident has been confirmed by DSP Abubakar Sadiq, the Katsina State Police Public Relations Officer.

Sadiq said formal statement will be released soon.

More information later.
