Oyo State Governor ‘Seyi Makinde has issued a stern warning to the All Progressives Congress (APC), cautioning them against undermining democracy by resorting to self-help in Osun State’s local government administration.

Warning Against Federal Might.

The Oyo Governor emphasized that the APC should not exploit its federal might to disrupt democratic processes.

He congratulated the 30 newly elected local government chairmen, urging them to deliver on their campaign promises and justify the trust placed in them.Solidarity with Osun State

Makinde attended the swearing-in ceremony alongside Senator Bala Mohammed, chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Governors’ Forum and governor of Bauchi State. They demonstrated solidarity with Osun State Governor Senator Nurudeen Ademola Adeleke.Call for Peaceful Resolution

Makinde noted that even with a court judgment, the APC should follow due process and avoid unlawful means.

He emphasized that democracy lovers would not want a resort to violence, referencing the South-West’s past reputation as the ‘Wild Wild West’. Makinde stated:” Let me congratulate the newly-minted chairmen and chairpersons… Don’t forget the promises you made to the people during your campaign.”

Commitment to Democracy. Makinde reiterated the importance of peaceful democracy, saying:”We just want to peacefully deliver the dividends of democracy to our people. So, nobody should resort to self-help.”

Federal Arrangement

Makinde concluded by emphasizing the federal arrangement, cautioning against truncating democratic processes: ” You cannot say that because you have the so-called federal might, you want to truncate the process. This is a federal arrangement.”
