Osun State’s African Action Congress (AAC) wants the Saturday local government elections canceled due to significant irregularities and electoral malpractices.

According to the party’s Sunday statement, most polling places lacked election materials, while OSIEC personnel arrived with pre-filled ballots and faked results.

An AAC Publicity Secretary, Akinlade Semiu, signed the statement, “We demand the immediate cancellation of this sham election due to the blatant disregard for democratic principles displayed by the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) and the Osun State Independent Electoral Commission (OSIEC).”

AAC claimed that important materials were secretly taken to Governor Ademola Adeleke’s country house for voting and result compilation.

“Our investigation reveals that on February 19, the PDP had already finalised plans to manipulate the election outcome.

“As a party committed to upholding true democracy and the rule of law, we will not tolerate this brazen assault on our democratic institution.”

Part of the statement read, “The African Action Congress (AAC), Osun State, under the leadership of Alabi Seun strongly condemns the blatant disregard for democratic principles displayed by the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) during yesterday’s local government election in Osun State.

“The PDP, in collusion with the Osun State Independent Electoral Commission (OSIEC) chairman, has committed an egregious act of electoral malpractice.

“In most polling units, election materials were not provided, while in others, OSIEC officials arrived with pre-filled ballots and fabricated results.”

On Saturday, February 22, 2025, the local government elections in Osun State have generated substantial controversy.

By the Osun State Independent Electoral Commission (OSIEC), the PDP was proclaimed the victorious candidate for all chairmanship and councillorship positions.
