Osun State’s Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has commended voters for their resilience and dedication to democracy, following the local government elections held on Saturday.

The party secured a clean sweep, winning all chairmanship and councillorship seats across the 30 local government areas.

In a statement released on Sunday, Osun PDP Chairman, Sunday Bisi, praised voters for their unwavering determination, despite facing “needless provocation and harassment” from certain security operatives allegedly attempting to disrupt the election.

Bisi emphasized that the peaceful conduct of the poll demonstrates the Osun people’s strong commitment to democracy, even in the face of numerous attempts to intimidate and suppress them.

He noted that the party is proud of the people and honors them as “heroes of democracy” for resisting intimidation and asserting their rights.

However, Bisi also condemned the violence that marred the pre-election period, calling on security agencies to arrest Ademoroti Adeboye, who allegedly killed a voter in Ilesa East.

The chairman expressed alarm over the violence perpetrated by APC thugs, which resulted in the death of a barber in Ilesa East and injuries to many others across the state.

The Osun PDP’s victory in the local government elections marks a significant milestone for the party, and Bisi’s statement highlights the importance of democratic participation and the need to hold perpetrators of violence accountable.
