Nasir El-Rufai, the former governor of Kaduna State, is calling for a “rescue operation” to save Nigeria.
He believes the north and south-south regions need to form an alliance, just like they did in the 60s, 70s, and 80s.
El-Rufai made this disclosure during a condolence visit to the family of late elder statesman Edwin Clark.

According to him, “In the 60s, 70s and 80s, the traditional political partners of the north was the south-south. Let us not forget that. Let us go back to that. Let us save this country because it really requires saving. We need a rescue operation.”
Interestingly, El-Rufai recently met with the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) leaders, sparking speculation about his political future. His relationship with the All Progressives Congress (APC) has deteriorated, and he was even rejected for a ministerial appointment due to security concerns.
Despite this, El-Rufai claims he’s moved on from past grievances and still supports President Bola Tinubu.
The meeting with PDP leaders has raised eyebrows, with many wondering if El-Rufai is considering a defection ahead of the 2027 elections. However, the details of the meeting remain undisclosed for now.
One thing is clear, though – El-Rufai is positioning himself for a significant role in Nigeria’s political future.
