The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) invited the Abdulraham Mohammed and Senator Samuel Anyanwu-led PDP faction to take part in a high-level political stakeholders’ meeting focused on preparations for the 2027 general elections.

The session is part of the Commission’s ongoing effort to involve all legally recognized party leaders in discussions that shape the country’s electoral framework.
This PDP faction, supported by the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, represented the party at the Thursday gathering alongside the caretaker committee of the Labour Party, led by Senator Nenadi Usman.
Officials from the All Progressives Congress (APC) and representatives from the David Mark-led African Democratic Congress (ADC) also attended.
The diverse attendance signals INEC’s commitment to fostering collaboration among all political stakeholders.
The participation of the Abdulraham Mohammed-Senator Samuel Anyanwu PDP faction follows a recent Federal High Court ruling in Ibadan, Oyo State, which dismissed the leadership claims of the Barrister Tanimu Turaki-led group.
By recognizing the Mohammed-Anyanwu faction, INEC is aligning its engagements with the latest judicial decisions, helping to stabilize leadership disputes within the party.
INEC Chairman Prof. Joash Amupitan emphasized the Commission’s respect for the judiciary during a Wednesday media briefing.
He explained that INEC would continue to acknowledge court decisions, including those recognizing the Senator Nenadi Usman-led Labour Party, and remains ready to comply with any subsequent rulings that may override current judgments.
This approach underscores the Commission’s dedication to legality, fairness, and transparency in the electoral process.
Political observers note that the inclusion of the Abdulraham Mohammed-led PDP faction in the discussions is a positive step toward resolving internal party tensions ahead of national elections.
“Bringing this faction to the table ensures all recognized voices are heard,” said a political analyst.
“It also strengthens the credibility of the upcoming polls by reducing the potential for disputes between rival party groups.”
Beyond leadership recognition, the meeting covered critical election preparations, including pre-election coordination, logistical arrangements, and strategies to reduce conflicts among political stakeholders.
By involving the Mohammed-Anyanwu PDP faction alongside other parties, INEC hopes to create a transparent and cooperative environment for the 2027 elections.
The 2027 polls are expected to be highly competitive, making INEC’s engagement with every recognized faction essential.
Through these discussions, the Commission aims to promote clarity in party representation, facilitate communication between political actors, and enhance voter confidence in the integrity of the electoral process.
The active participation of the Abdulraham Mohammed-led PDP faction, together with the Labour Party and other political stakeholders, highlights INEC’s commitment to inclusivity and adherence to judicial rulings.
As Nigeria moves closer to the 2027 elections, the roles of recognized party factions, electoral authorities, and political stakeholders will be pivotal in shaping the credibility and success of the democratic exercise.
