A Taraba student found dead at her boyfriend’s home in Jalingo has sparked police investigation after alcohol bottles were found and the boyfriend fled.
The case of a Taraba student found dead at her boyfriend’s residence in Jalingo has thrown the university community into mourning and triggered a police investigation.
The victim, Comfort Jimtop Oliver, was a 100-level Mass Communication student of Taraba State University (TSU).

She was discovered lifeless on Friday, September 12, 2025, inside a room at the Bakasi area of Jalingo, near Dr. Rapha’s quarters, directly opposite the Vice-Chancellor’s gate.
Comfort, who hailed from Takum Local Government Area and belonged to the Kuteb ethnic group, had only recently begun her undergraduate studies before tragedy struck.
Her sudden death has left many shocked, raising pressing questions about the events that led to it.
According to police investigators, several empty bottles of alcoholic drinks were recovered beside the bed where her body was found.
A senior officer, part of the investigation team, explained that the discovery suggested heavy drinking may have occurred before her death.
The officer, who requested anonymity, further revealed that when police operatives arrived at the building, which houses over 15 tenants, the compound was completely deserted.
The room’s occupant—believed to be Comfort’s boyfriend—was missing and has not been seen since the incident.
“When the case was reported at our station near the university gate, our team moved immediately. On arrival, we found the entire house empty.
“The supposed boyfriend of the deceased, who owns the room, had vanished. Inside, we recovered multiple empty bottles of hard drinks beside the bed,” the officer said.
“We are treating this matter with urgency and investigations are ongoing.”
The Taraba State Police Command also confirmed the tragedy. Its spokesperson, James Lashen, described the situation as “disturbing” but emphasized that full details remain sketchy.
He added that the Command would provide updates once the Divisional Police Officer handling the matter submits a comprehensive report.
The missing boyfriend has since become a key focus of the investigation, with many students and residents speculating about his role.
His disappearance, combined with the evidence found at the scene, has fueled suspicions and heightened demands for answers.

On campus, the mood is somber. Some students who spoke to reporters described Comfort as cheerful, friendly, and ambitious.
They expressed grief over her sudden death and called on both university authorities and security agencies to step up efforts to protect students, especially those living off-campus.
The case of the Taraba student found dead has also sparked community concern in Jalingo.
Local residents worry about the growing exposure of young people to risky lifestyles involving alcohol and unsafe relationships.
They appealed to parents and guardians to remain actively engaged in their children’s lives, even while they pursue higher education away from home.
Meanwhile, Comfort’s family is said to be devastated by the news. Relatives described her as a young woman full of dreams and determination, with aspirations of building a successful career in journalism.
Her death, they said, has robbed them of a daughter who had just begun her journey.
The police have assured that no stone will be left unturned in the investigation.
Authorities are working to trace the missing boyfriend and piece together the final hours of Comfort’s life.
They have also urged anyone with relevant information to come forward.
For now, unanswered questions continue to hang over the tragedy. Students, family members, and the wider community wait anxiously for the outcome of the investigation, hoping that justice will be served and lessons learned to prevent similar tragedies in the future.
The Taraba student found dead case remains one of the most disturbing incidents to hit the university in recent years, and its shadow is likely to linger for a long time.
