The North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) has announced a new initiative ” Eastern Sentry” to bolster the security of its eastern European members in response to Russia’s recent violation of Polish airspace.
Secretary-General Mark Rutte revealed that NATO is launching “Eastern Sentry” to enhance its posture along the eastern flank, emphasizing that the alliance will not tolerate reckless behavior from Russia.
According to Rutte, “NATO is launching Eastern Sentry to bolster our posture even further along our eastern flank.” This new mission will commence in the coming days and involve a range of assets from allies, including Denmark, France, the United Kingdom, and Germany.
NATO’s top commander, US General Alexus Grynkewich, highlighted the importance of collective defense, stating, “although the immediacy of our focus is on Poland, this situation transcends the borders of one nation. What affects one ally affects us all.”
The announcement comes two days after multiple Russian drones crossed into Poland, prompting NATO to send fighter jets to shoot them down.
While Russia claims its forces were attacking Ukraine at the time of the drone incursions and did not intend to hit any targets in Poland, NATO remains concerned about the implications of such incidents. Rutte emphasized that regardless of intent, “it is reckless. It is unacceptable.”

French President Emmanuel Macron announced that he would deploy three Rafale fighters to Poland, underscoring the alliance’s commitment to regional security.
