Tyler Perry faces $260M shocking lawsuit over sexual assault claim

Hollywood mogul Tyler Perry, acclaimed for his Madea film franchise and critically recognized dramas such as Acrimony, is facing fresh controversy as a $260 million sexual assault lawsuit threatens to overshadow his decades-long career.

The suit, filed by actor Derek Dixon, has intensified debates over workplace power dynamics in Hollywood and the treatment of rising talents under influential producers.

Dixon, best known for playing Dale in Perry’s BET drama series The Oval, publicly shared his allegations in an emotional sit-down interview with ABC News on September 9, 2025.

According to the actor, Perry allegedly crossed professional boundaries on multiple occasions, creating an environment of coercion and intimidation.

Dixon claimed that Perry sexually harassed him at the producer’s Atlanta home, including an incident where Perry allegedly pulled down his underwear and grabbed his buttocks.

He further alleged that the fear of losing his acting role or being written off the show compelled him to remain silent for a long time.

“I was under constant stress, scared I’d lose my job or be killed off the show if I didn’t comply,” Dixon stated.

The actor said his $260 million claim represents both personal and professional damages, alongside an effort to hold Perry accountable.

“Part of that number is my lost job, my lost income, the loss of a show. The other part of that is a deterrent—how do you stop a billionaire who won’t stop themselves from doing this?” Dixon explained.

In addition to allegations of harassment, Dixon accused Perry of failing to fulfill a professional commitment.

He claimed Perry promised to produce a pilot he had written but never delivered, despite allegedly retaining control of the intellectual property.

This, according to Dixon, added to his sense of betrayal.

“Never exploit someone’s aspirations to coerce them into a relationship. That’s unprofessional,” he said, emphasizing that his decision to come forward was about protecting future generations of actors.

Dixon first filed a complaint with the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) in January 2024 before exiting The Oval later that year.

His lawsuit, filed in June 2025, comes at a time when Hollywood is still grappling with the long-lasting effects of the #MeToo movement.

Tyler Perry, who recently became one of Hollywood’s highest-earning filmmakers and maintains a stronghold in the African-American film industry, has denied all allegations.

His attorney, Matthew Boyd, dismissed Dixon’s claims as part of “an elaborate scam.”

“This is an individual who got close to Tyler Perry for what now appears to be an elaborate scam.

But Tyler will not be coerced, and we are confident these unfounded harassment claims will not succeed,” Boyd stated.

So far, Dixon remains the only publicly identified accuser, but the scale of the lawsuit has drawn wide media attention, potentially putting Perry’s billion-dollar entertainment empire under scrutiny.

The lawsuit comes amid heightened awareness of power imbalances in Hollywood.

Since 2017, multiple industry figures have faced legal actions over workplace misconduct, prompting studios and production companies to review codes of conduct.

Legal experts say Dixon’s lawsuit could test how courts interpret workplace harassment when allegations involve top industry figures with massive financial influence.

“This is not just about Tyler Perry—it’s about whether systemic accountability exists when a billionaire producer is accused of misconduct by a less powerful actor,” said New York–based entertainment lawyer, Rachel Klein.

For Tyler Perry, who has built a reputation as a philanthropist, studio owner, and one of the few Black billionaires in Hollywood, the allegations could have long-term reputational consequences.

His 330-acre Tyler Perry Studios in Atlanta has become a hub for Black creativity and an alternative to Hollywood’s traditional studio system.

Industry observers say that even if Perry successfully defends himself, the lawsuit may shape how future collaborations are perceived. Investors, streaming platforms, and advertisers may become cautious until the case is resolved.

Despite the risks, Dixon insists his motivation is not just financial compensation but creating a safer industry. “I spoke out to protect future generations of actors and creatives,” he said.

With his lawsuit now in motion, the entertainment industry is watching closely to see how one of its most powerful figures responds under the weight of public scrutiny and legal challenges.
