Senator Husain declares bid to unseat Adeleke in 2026 Osun poll

APC chieftain Senator Mudashiru Husain has declared his ambition to contest Osun 2026 governorship election, vowing to unseat Governor Ademola Adeleke.

A former lawmaker and frontline politician, Senator Mudashiru Husain, has officially declared his intention to vie for the governorship seat of Osun State in the 2026 elections under the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Husain, who served two terms as a member of the House of Representatives in Lagos State and later represented Osun West Senatorial District in the Senate, made this bold declaration at the APC State Secretariat in Osogbo.

The event, held before party leaders and critical stakeholders, was presided over by the APC State Chairman, Tajudeen Sooko Lawal.

Addressing the enthusiastic gathering, Senator Husain expressed confidence in his ability to defeat the incumbent governor, Senator Ademola Adeleke, of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

He described himself as politically grounded, with extensive legislative experience and national exposure, noting that these qualities placed him ahead of other APC aspirants.

The former National Commissioner on Population and Housing Census likened himself to the “major general” among the contenders, declaring that his track record, political structures, and proven templates for governance were more than sufficient to reclaim Osun for the APC.

Senator Husain also emphasized the principle of fairness in the state’s political arrangement.

According to him, it was the rightful turn of Ejigbo Local Government, his constituency, to produce the next governor of Osun State.

He argued that zoning should reflect inclusivity and justice, while assuring stakeholders that his government would prioritize equity, fairness, and inclusiveness if given the opportunity to serve.

While pledging not to pursue his ambition for personal reasons, Husain appealed for the backing of stakeholders across the state.

He maintained that his aspiration was driven by a genuine desire to transform Osun, provide sustainable development, and improve the welfare of the people.

He further reassured the party leaders that his candidacy would unite the APC and strengthen its chances of reclaiming power in 2026, stressing that his leadership style would be open, inclusive, and focused on the collective progress of the state.

In his response, the State Chairman of the APC, Tajudeen Sooko Lawal, commended Senator Husain and other aspirants for their courage and determination to contest.

He reminded them that the ultimate goal was not only to win the primary but also to ensure that the APC returned to power in Osun State.

Lawal appealed for unity among party members, warning aspirants against divisive politics.

He insisted that the party could only succeed if all aspirants rallied behind whoever emerged as the APC candidate after the primaries.

“With the grace of God,” Lawal said, “the APC will take over Osun State come 2026.

“We must all remember that we belong to the same family, and the party’s victory is bigger than any personal ambition.

“Whoever wins the ticket must be supported wholeheartedly by others for us to succeed.”

The APC chairman further argued that all aspirants within the party were more politically experienced and better prepared to govern Osun than the incumbent governor, Senator Ademola Adeleke of the PDP.

Osun State has been a political battleground between the APC and PDP in recent years.

The PDP reclaimed power in 2022 with the election of Governor Ademola Adeleke, defeating former Governor Gboyega Oyetola of the APC.

Since then, the opposition party has been strategizing for a comeback, with prominent aspirants like Senator Husain now stepping forward.
