FCT Police have launched an investigation after a decomposed body was discovered at Abuja’s National Assembly Complex. Authorities are working to ID the deceased
The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command has launched a full-scale investigation following the discovery of a decomposed body at the National Assembly Complex in Abuja.

Authorities say the incident has raised concerns over security and safety within the federal precinct.
The FCT Police spokesperson, SP Josephine Adeh, stated in a press release today, September 8, 2025, that the body, believed to be that of an unidentified male, has been deposited at the Asokoro General Hospital for further examination.
Medical personnel at the hospital confirmed that the corpse was already in an advanced state of decomposition when it was brought in.
According to SP Adeh, the FCT Command received a distress call on the morning of September 7, at about 9 a.m., reporting the discovery of a lifeless body at a construction site within the National Assembly Complex.
Preliminary information suggests the deceased may have been a labourer working at the site, although his identity has yet to be confirmed.
The Divisional Police Officer (DPO) of the National Assembly Division promptly responded to the scene.
On arrival, officers discovered the deceased inside a red Peugeot 406 vehicle with registration number BWR-577 BF.
The body was immediately evacuated to Asokoro General Hospital, where medical personnel confirmed that it was in a highly decomposed state.

SP Adeh disclosed that the FCT Commissioner of Police, CP Ajao Olawale, has directed that a discreet, thorough investigation be conducted to determine the circumstances leading to the death.
The police command has intensified efforts to identify the deceased, verify his background, and ascertain whether foul play was involved.
The FCT Police Command has also called on members of the public who may have information about the incident or the deceased to come forward and assist the authorities.
Investigators are expected to review CCTV footage, interview construction site workers, and trace vehicle ownership to ensure all angles of the case are covered.
This incident has heightened public concern over security within the National Assembly precinct, and authorities have assured that all necessary steps will be taken to prevent similar occurrences in the future.
