Peter Obi pauses public activities after his doctor advised rest, following a brief illness during engagements in Enugu and Anambra.
The 2023 Presidential candidate of the Labour Party (LP), Peter Obi, has announced that he will be stepping back temporarily from public activities in order to prioritise his health.
In a message shared on his official X handle, Obi explained that his doctor had advised him to take a brief period of rest after he began feeling unwell during his engagements in Enugu.
According to him, he had already received medical attention and some medication but was strongly urged to suspend his busy schedule for at least a few days.
“Earlier in Enugu, I was not feeling well. I visited the hospital where the doctor gave me some medication and advised me to take a day or two days rest.
“In obedience to the doctor’s advice, I will not be able to meet up with all my scheduled engagements within and outside the country this weekend.
“I sincerely apologise for any inconveniences this might cause and humbly plead for understanding,” Obi stated.
Despite his health challenge, the Labour Party flagbearer continued with a series of commitments before his doctor’s directive.

He disclosed that, on Friday, after addressing a tourism event in Enugu, he travelled to Isulo in Orumba South Local Government Area of Anambra State.
There, he visited the Good Hope Specialist Hospital, which is in the process of being acquired by the Aguata Diocese of the Church of Nigeria.
During the visit, Obi made what he described as an “initial modest contribution” of ₦10 million to support the Diocese’s efforts in acquiring and revitalising the medical facility.
He was received and conducted round the hospital complex by Ven. Dr. Kamtochukwu Obi, the Chairman of the Aguata Diocesan Hospital Board, who briefed him extensively on the Diocese’s ambitious plans for the facility’s transformation.
Obi commended the Church’s vision, describing it as an inspiring move that could set a new standard in healthcare delivery.
He praised faith-based organisations for their track record of excellence whenever given the right support, adding that healthcare remains one of the most important investments a nation can make.
According to him, the Diocese intends to expand the hospital into a comprehensive health complex with a School of Nursing, Midwifery, and Health Technology, ensuring that future generations will not only have access to quality medical care but also robust training opportunities in the health sector. “Together, we can build a healthier Nigeria,” Obi emphasised.
From Isulo, the former Anambra State Governor proceeded to Owerri, Imo State, where he attended a dinner hosted by Barrister Nnaemeka Maduagwu in honour of his former boss, ex-Kaduna State Governor, Mallam Nasir El-Rufai.
Obi concluded his statement by reassuring his supporters and associates that his break was only temporary and strictly for health reasons. He expressed gratitude for their understanding while pledging to resume his engagements once cleared by his doctor.
