The Kano NNPP has expelled Rep. Abdulmumin Jibrin for anti-party activities and unpaid dues, saying his political success rests only on Kwankwasiyya.
The Kano State chapter of the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP) has formally expelled House of Representatives member, Abdulmumin Jibrin Kofa, accusing him of engaging in anti-party activities and failing to honor his financial obligations to the party.

The decision, according to the party leadership, was reached after months of internal conflict involving the lawmaker, whose loyalty to the NNPP and its leadership had been repeatedly questioned.
Speaking during a press conference in Kano on Saturday, the state chairman of the NNPP, Hashim Sulaiman Dungurawa, explained that the expulsion was necessary to preserve party discipline and protect its integrity.
He said Jibrin’s public statements and actions had consistently undermined the unity of the NNPP, particularly in Kano, where the party enjoys strong grassroots support through the Kwankwasiyya movement led by Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso.
Dungurawa dismissed the political strength of the expelled lawmaker, describing him as a “weak politician” who only gained relevance through the NNPP platform.
“If Abdulmumin Jibrin had any real political weight, he would have won his seat under the All Progressives Congress (APC) where he was originally.
“He failed there. It was only after aligning with the NNPP and riding on the Kwankwasiyya movement that he secured a House of Representatives seat.
“He is deceiving himself if he believes his victory was personal,” the chairman said.
Dungurawa further revealed that the party initially made efforts to reconcile with Jibrin after his controversial remarks during an interview with Channels Television. A committee was reportedly set up to engage him and find a resolution.

However, the chairman said Jibrin’s subsequent actions showed that he had no interest in reconciliation.
“Instead of embracing dialogue, he intensified his disloyalty. He went further to pledge allegiance outside the NNPP and worked against our interests.
“That is why we had no choice but to expel him. As far as we are concerned, he has no value to add to the party anymore,” Dungurawa declared.
In addition to allegations of disloyalty, Jibrin was also accused of persistently failing to pay his mandatory party dues.
The chairman stressed that financial contributions are not optional but a constitutional requirement for all members.
“We are already preparing legal action against him to recover the dues he owes the party.
“The NNPP cannot tolerate a member who enjoys its platform but refuses to meet the obligations clearly spelled out in our constitution,” Dungurawa added.
On reports that Jibrin may be planning to return to the APC, the NNPP chairman said such a move would not affect the party’s strength in Kano.
He emphasized that the NNPP remained firmly rooted in the state, with the support of the Kwankwasiyya political structure and its leader, Senator Kwankwaso.
“His defection, if it happens, will not shake us. The NNPP in Kano is built on solid structures and the goodwill of the people. No single individual can weaken that foundation,” Dungurawa said confidently.
Abdulmumin Jibrin, a controversial figure in Nigerian politics, has switched political parties multiple times in the past.
He was once a prominent member of the APC and played a key role in party campaigns before joining the NNPP ahead of the 2023 general elections.
His defection then was seen as a significant boost for the NNPP in Kano. However, his relationship with the party leadership soon soured, culminating in his expulsion.
The development is likely to spark further political realignments in Kano, a state considered the stronghold of the NNPP in northern Nigeria.
