Kylian Mbappé moved joint second on France’s all-time scoring list after netting in Les Bleus’ 2-0 win over Ukraine in their 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifier on Friday.

The 26-year-old struck in the 82nd minute to seal victory in Paris, taking his tally to 51 international goals – equalling Arsenal legend Thierry Henry. Only Olivier Giroud, on 57, now sits ahead of him in the French scoring charts.

Michael Olise had opened the scoring for Didier Deschamps’ side in the 10th minute, and although Ukraine battled gamely, they rarely threatened a breakthrough against a disciplined French defence.

Mbappé, who made his debut in 2017, has long been the face of French football, he burst onto the global stage at the 2018 World Cup in Russia, scoring four times as France lifted the trophy, and cemented his superstar status at Qatar 2022 by claiming the Golden Boot with eight goals, including a hat-trick in the final.

France remain firmly on course for qualification, tightening their grip at the top of Group C.

Mbappé will have the chance to surpass Henry and take outright second place in the scoring charts when France face Georgia on Tuesday.
