Osun Amotekun Corps has arrested suspected kidnapper Ayobola Awe, aka ‘Bishop Awasere’, in Ilesa, recovering drugs and charms from his hideout
The Osun State Western Nigeria Security Network (WNSN), codenamed Operation Amotekun has announced the arrest of a suspected kidnapper, Ayobola Awe, in the Isokun area of Ilesa, marking a significant development in the state’s ongoing efforts to combat violent crime.

In a statement released on Sunday, Mr. Yusuf Abass, the Public Relations Officer of the Amotekun Corps, confirmed the arrest and provided details of the operation.
According to him, Awe—popularly referred to as “Bishop Awasere”—had been on the wanted lists of several security agencies for his alleged involvement in serious criminal activities, including kidnapping and murder.
The statement explained that intelligence-led efforts by the Corps successfully tracked Awe and his gang to a hideout in the Isokun area of Ilesa.
The operation, which took place at approximately 5:59 p.m., was carried out with precision, resulting in the apprehension of the suspect.
“During the raid, our operatives recovered hard drugs and a cache of assorted charms, which are believed to have been used by the gang for spiritual fortification to protect them during criminal operations,” the statement said.
The discovery of these items highlights the methods employed by criminal gangs in the region to intimidate communities and evade law enforcement.
While Awe was captured, some members of his gang managed to escape. The Corps has since launched an extensive manhunt to track down these fugitives and bring them to justice.
The authorities have reassured residents that all necessary measures are being taken to ensure that the escaped suspects are apprehended swiftly.
The arrest of Awe has been hailed by security officials as a major breakthrough in the fight against violent crime in Osun State and its environs.

According to Mr. Abass, the successful operation not only disrupts the activities of a dangerous criminal network but also serves as a deterrent to other criminal elements operating in the region.
The Amotekun Corps reaffirmed its commitment to maintaining law and order in the state and urged residents to continue providing information to security agencies to help curb crime and enhance community safety.
