Carlos Alcaraz produced a dazzling performance to end Jannik Sinner’s reign in New York, claiming his second US Open title and a sixth career Grand Slam with a 6-2, 3-6, 6-1, 6-4 victory on Arthur Ashe Stadium.

The Spaniard, 22, not only dethroned Sinner but also ensured he will return to world No. 1 on Monday, replacing the Italian after his 65-week stay at the top.

World No. 1

Alcaraz now stands as the second-youngest man in the Open Era to win six majors, behind only Bjorn Borg.

Security Delays, Political Spotlight

The final was delayed by half an hour after heightened airport-style security checks left thousands of fans stuck outside the 24,000-seat arena.

Among those inside was former U.S. President Donald Trump, whose presence drew mixed reactions — polite applause during the anthem but loud boos when he appeared again on screen later.

Still, the real spotlight fell on Alcaraz, who seized the moment with a serving masterclass that featured 10 aces and relentless pressure from the baseline.

Alcaraz Strikes Early, Sinner Fights Back

In their third straight Grand Slam final against each other, Alcaraz began at full throttle, breaking serve in the opening game and storming through the first set.

Sinner, looking tentative and nursing the abdominal issue that troubled him in the semi-final, finally settled in during the second, riding a surge of crowd energy to level the match.

But Alcaraz responded emphatically in the third, breaking twice to regain control and gesturing defiantly to the stands as he roared into a two-sets-to-one lead.

By the fourth set, Sinner’s serve faltered again, allowing Alcaraz to strike the decisive break in the fifth game.

The Italian saved two match points late on, but Alcaraz sealed victory with his 10th ace, sparking jubilant celebrations.

Rivalry Built on Respect

After the match, Alcaraz paid tribute to his rival:

“Jannik, it’s unbelievable what you’re doing this season. I see you more than my own family! It’s great to share the court and share everything with you.”

Sinner, gracious in defeat, admitted: “I tried my best today, I couldn’t do more. A lot of big stages and matches we played this season, and I’ll learn from this.”

Expert Reaction

Tennis great Martina Navratilova hailed Alcaraz’s performance: “When his game clicks, he’s practically unbeatable. He just has that extra gear.”

Laura Robson added: “They lift each other every time they play. In terms of shot-making, movement, and physicality, Alcaraz and Sinner are taking the sport to new heights.”
