Xi promised to protect China’s interests as reactions trail North Korea-China meeting

North Korean leader Kim Jong Un met with Chinese President Xi Jinping in Beijing, solidifying their countries’ alliance.

During their meeting, Kim Jong Un reaffirmed North Korea’s commitment to supporting China in defending its sovereignty, territorial integrity, and development interests.

“No matter how the international situation changes, the feeling of friendship cannot change” between Pyongyang and Beijing, Kim said, according to the Korean Central News Agency.

Xi described China and North Korea as “good neighbours, good friends and good comrades” that share one destiny, and he expressed willingness to “defend, consolidate and develop” their relations.

This meeting comes on the heels of a significant display of unity between North Korea, China, and Russia.

The three nations showcased their alliance during a massive military parade in Beijing, marking 80 years since the end of World War II.

Russian President Vladimir Putin and Kim Jong Un attended the parade, where they met with Xi Jinping for two and a half hours, discussing long-term cooperation plans. Putin praised North Korea’s support for Russia’s military campaign in Ukraine, highlighting their deepening military partnership.

In a congratulatory message to Kim Jong Un on North Korea’s foundation day, Putin hailed Pyongyang’s support for Moscow’s military campaign in Ukraine.

“Your combat force’s heroic involvement in liberating the Kursk territories from the invaders is a distinct symbol of friendship and mutual aid between Russia and North Korea,” Putin’s message read.

He expressed confidence in continuing to work together to consolidate their comprehensive strategic partnership.

The meeting between Kim Jong Un and Xi Jinping has drawn reactions worldwide.

United States President Donald Trump addressed Xi in a post on his Truth Social platform, saying, “please give my warmest regards to Vladimir Putin, and Kim Jong Un, as you conspire against The United States of America.”

A Kremlin aide dismissed Trump’s remarks, saying “no one even had this in their thoughts”.

The alliance between North Korea, China, and Russia has significant implications for global politics.

As the three nations continue to deepen their military partnership, it raises concerns about the potential impact on regional and global stability. The international community will be watching closely as this situation develops further.
