IGP Kayode Egbetokun appoints CSP Benjamin Hundeyin as the new Force Public Relations Officer, tasking him to strengthen police-public relations in Nigeria.

The Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, NPM, Ph.D., has approved the appointment of Chief Superintendent of Police (CSP) Benjamin Hundeyin as the new Force Public Relations Officer (FPRO).

The appointment takes immediate effect.

The announcement was formally made through a statement issued on Thursday by the outgoing FPRO, Deputy Commissioner of Police (DSP), Olumuyiwa Adejobi.

In his remarks, Adejobi described Hundeyin as a thoroughbred professional, noting that his appointment reflects the leadership’s commitment to strengthening communication between the police and the Nigerian public.

Adejobi expressed confidence in Hundeyin’s capacity to deliver, highlighting his solid academic background, specialized training, and years of practical experience within and outside the country.

According to the statement, CSP Hundeyin is well grounded academically. He graduated with a Bachelor of Arts (Hons) degree in English Language from Lagos State University and later obtained a Master of Science degree in Legal Criminology and Security Psychology from the University of Ibadan.

To further enhance his professional expertise, Hundeyin earned a Certificate in Civil-Military Coordination from the Martin Luther Agwai International Leadership and Peacekeeping Training Centre, Jaji, Kaduna State.

These qualifications, Adejobi noted, have uniquely equipped him with a blend of communication skills, security knowledge, and crisis management techniques.

Hundeyin is also a certified professional in public relations and personnel management. He is an Associate of the Nigerian Institute of Public Relations (NIPR), a member of the International Public Relations Association (IPRA), and an Associate of the Chartered Institute of Personnel Management of Nigeria (CIPM).

Career Experience and Notable Appointments
Beyond his academic and professional credentials, Hundeyin is described as a seasoned communicator and an experienced police officer who has served in different capacities across the Force.

He was formerly the Police Public Relations Officer for the Lagos State Police Command, where he played a key role in managing communication strategies, handling crisis situations, and enhancing public-police relations.

Prior to that, he served as the Police PRO at Zone 2 Command Headquarters, Onikan, Lagos.

His career has also had an international dimension, as he was part of Nigeria’s contingent to the United Nations Peacekeeping Mission in Darfur, Sudan (UNAMID) in 2020, where he gained first-hand exposure to international security operations and inter-agency collaboration.

Additionally, Hundeyin served as the Administration Officer at the Force Public Relations Department, Force Headquarters, Abuja, further broadening his experience within the central communication structure of the Nigeria Police Force.

In his directive, IGP Egbetokun tasked Hundeyin with the responsibility of deepening the Force’s engagement with the Nigerian public, sustaining transparency, and building stronger public trust in the police institution.

“The Inspector-General of Police has charged him to leverage on his vast communication expertise, coupled with his security background, to strengthen the Force’s Public Relations activities and foster continuous positive engagement with Nigerians,” the statement read in part.

Adejobi added that Hundeyin’s appointment comes at a critical time when effective communication, professionalism, and community engagement are essential for repositioning the image of the police.
