President Tinubu appoints Nakore as Pro-Chancellor of Kano Federal University of Education, and Professors Kodage, Bunkure as Vice Chancellors in Kano, Zaria.
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has made fresh appointments in Nigeria’s education sector, approving new leadership for two Federal Universities of Education recently upgraded from Colleges of Education.
The move is part of his administration’s broader effort to strengthen tertiary education and improve teacher training across the country.
In a statement released on Wednesday, 3rd September 2025, by Bayo Onanuga, the Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, the President announced the appointment of Engineer Abdurrazaq Abubakar Nakore as the Pro-Chancellor and Chairman of the Governing Council of Yusuf Maitama Sule Federal University of Education, Kano.

Engineer Nakore, a seasoned professional and Fellow of the Nigerian Society of Engineers, brings with him a wealth of administrative and technical experience.
He previously served as the Executive Secretary of the Rural Electricity Board in Jigawa State, where he played a critical role in expanding energy access to underserved communities.
His appointment as Pro-Chancellor is for a four-year tenure, in line with the statutes governing federal universities.
Alongside this appointment, President Tinubu also approved Prof. Abdullahi Tukur Kodage as the Vice Chancellor of the same institution.
Prof. Kodage is widely respected in academic circles and is expected to provide strong academic leadership. He will serve for a statutory term of five years.

The President further named Prof. Yahaya Isa Bunkure as the Vice Chancellor of the Federal University of Education, Zaria, Kaduna State.
Prof. Bunkure is a distinguished academic with vast expertise in science education.
Until his new appointment, he was serving as the Vice Chancellor of Saadatu Rimi University of Education, Kano, where he was credited with implementing reforms that strengthened academic programs and expanded research opportunities. He will also serve a five-year tenure.
The Yusuf Maitama Sule Federal University of Education, Kano, and the Federal University of Education, Zaria, were both among four Colleges of Education upgraded to full-fledged universities between 2022 and 2023.
The upgrade was aimed at expanding access to higher education, raising the standard of teacher training, and equipping future educators with the skills required to drive Nigeria’s development agenda in line with global best practices.
