The Radio, Television, Theatre and Arts Workers’ Union of Nigeria (RATTAWU), Broadcasting Corporation of Oyo State (BCOS) Chapter, has successfully concluded its executive transition with the peaceful election and swearing-in of new officers.

The event, which took place in Ibadan on Thursday, September 4, 2025, marked the official end of the tenure of the outgoing executives and the beginning of a new chapter for the union.

Declaring the election open on behalf of the BCOS Chairperson, Chief Mrs. Dotun Olaitan, the General Manager of BCOS, Mr. Goke Adelakun, praised the unity and harmony within the chapter.

He acknowledged the collaborative efforts of the state leadership, the Southwest bloc, and elders in fostering a peaceful environment.

Mr. Adelakun urged members to give their full support to the incoming executives, stressing that stakeholders did not endorse any particular candidate but only desired a stronger, resourceful, and progressive union.

Also speaking at the event, the outgoing Chairman of RATTAWU BCOS, Comrade Kolapo Carew, expressed gratitude to union leaders for their contributions to the development of the corporation.

He reflected on the union’s history of political divisions but commended the members for embracing peace and harmony, noting that the new spirit of unity was evident in the warm interactions among members.

The Oyo State RATTAWU Council Chairman, Comrade Kehinde Olayade, formally dissolved the outgoing executive committee and expressed appreciation to those who aspired to contest but withdrew their ambition in the interest of peace.

He commended the electoral committee for its excellent work and declared the committee dissolved after the successful exercise.

Representing the National President of RATTAWU, Prince Emeka Kalu (popularly known as Magic Fingers), National Trustee Mr. Ganzalo conveyed the President’s appreciation to the BCOS Chapter.

He noted that the peaceful conduct of the election contradicted past criticisms that BCOS elections often ended in disputes.

Mr. Ganzalo applauded the chapter for proving such critics wrong and for displaying a spirit of cooperation and maturity.

According to the union, harmonisation efforts had earlier reduced contests to only one position — the Secretary.

The election, conducted with 250 ballot papers, lasted just over an hour. Out of the 127 valid votes cast, two were voided.

At the end of the process, Comrade Bashiru Aliyu emerged victorious with 72 votes against Comrade Olanike Aina, who secured 53 votes.

Following the declaration of results, the new executives of RATTAWU BCOS Oyo State Chapter were sworn in immediately.
