FCT Minister Nyesom Wike begins Karu road reconstruction, expands scope to feeder roads, boosting infrastructure under Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda.

The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has launched the emergency reconstruction and dualization of the Karu road, a vital route linking the Karu Interchange to the Customs Clinic Junction within the Abuja Municipal Area Council (AMAC).

The flag-off ceremony, held on Wednesday, marked a significant step in addressing the longstanding concerns of residents in one of Abuja’s most densely populated satellite towns.

Although the central focus of the project is the Karu road, Wike announced that the scope has been widened to include the rehabilitation of several adjoining roads.

According to him, this decision followed persistent advocacy from stakeholders, who highlighted that without adjoining link roads, the benefits of the reconstruction would be limited.

As part of the expansion, the new roads scheduled for reconstruction include: Customs Clinic Junction to CBN Quarters Junction, Customs Clinic Junction to EFCC Quarters, NIA Quarters Road and Primus Hospital Road

The Minister explained that integrating these roads would open up the entire Karu axis, reduce congestion, and improve accessibility for residents and businesses alike.

Wike attributed the success of the initiative to the tireless efforts of local leaders. He singled out the AMAC Chairman, Christopher Maiakalangu, for persistently lobbying for the project.

He recalled how the chairman continuously emphasized the importance of the Karu road, arguing that after the successful completion of the Nyanya-Karshi road, it would be unjust to neglect Karu, which also serves as a lifeline for commuters.

Similarly, Wike praised former FCT Senator Philip Aduda, who personally intervened to ensure that adjoining feeder roads were included in the project’s scope.

The Minister remarked that Aduda’s intervention showed a genuine commitment to the people he once represented, stressing that leaders who stand up for their communities deserve continuous support.

Speaking further, Wike reiterated that the project aligns with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, which prioritizes the provision of infrastructure in underserved communities.

He emphasized that the administration’s vision goes beyond central Abuja, seeking to extend modern amenities and quality infrastructure to satellite towns that have long been neglected.

He explained that the government was not only fixing major highways but also expanding water supply systems, rehabilitating rural roads, and installing streetlights to improve safety and the business environment.

According to him, this holistic approach is designed to create a more balanced FCT where development is not limited to the city centre but also spreads to the suburbs.

The Minister expressed confidence in the contracting firm, Messers Abdul Val Nigeria Limited.

He cited their previous delivery of a 16-kilometer dual carriageway in Ushafa, Bwari Area Council, within 10 months as proof of their capacity and commitment.

Wike therefore urged the company to replicate that feat in Karu by completing the 5.4-kilometer road and all additional routes within the same timeframe.

He further assured residents that the reconstruction would not be limited to road surfaces but would include modern features such as solar-powered streetlights, aimed at enhancing security, boosting night-time economic activities, and improving the overall quality of life in Karu.

In her remarks, FCT Minister of State, Mariya Mahmoud, praised President Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda for delivering impactful, people-centered projects across the country.

She commended Wike for his leadership, stressing that the Karu project was yet another example of how responsive governance directly transforms lives.

The Coordinator of the Satellite Towns Development Department, Abdulkadir Zulkiflu, provided a technical overview of the project.

He explained that in addition to the 5.4 kilometers of road reconstruction, the project would also involve key engineering works, such as drainage systems and solar-powered street lighting.

He emphasized that the rehabilitation would ensure seamless traffic flow from Nyanya to Karshi and improve mobility across the Nyanya-Karshi corridor.

The Managing Director of Abdul Val Nigeria Ltd., Mr. Suleman Abdul, reassured the government and residents of Karu of his company’s dedication to delivering a high-quality job.

He expressed gratitude for the trust reposed in the company and promised to meet the agreed 10-month deadline without compromising on standards.

In his closing remarks, Wike urged residents to continue supporting leaders who genuinely fight for their communities.

He noted that the Karu road project was a product of advocacy and dialogue, proving that when elected officials engage government constructively, real development follows

He further encouraged citizens to hold leaders accountable, ensuring that campaign promises translate into tangible benefits.
