Manchester City have confirmed the signing of goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma from Paris Saint-Germain for a reported fee of around €35 million (£30m/$41m).

The 26-year-old Italy international has signed a five-year contract, becoming Pep Guardiola’s new No.1 following Ederson’s departure to Fenerbahce after eight years at the Etihad.

Donnarumma arrives with an illustrious CV. He helped PSG secure a historic treble last season, including their first-ever Champions League triumph, keeping a clean sheet in the 5-0 final victory over Inter Milan.

He was also Italy’s hero at Euro 2020, saving decisive penalties in both the semi-final and final as the Azzurri lifted the trophy.

Speaking after the move, Donnarumma said:

“To have signed for Manchester City is such a special and proud moment for me. I am joining a squad packed with world-class talent and a team led by one of the greatest managers in the history of football in Pep Guardiola. This is a club every player in world football would love to join.”

City’s director of football Hugo Viana hailed the signing as a major coup:

“Gianluigi’s pedigree, quality and record speak for themselves. He has a wealth of top-level experience and knows what it takes to achieve success on a sustained level. We are absolutely thrilled he has joined us.”

Donnarumma made 247 appearances for AC Milan after breaking into the first team as a 16-year-old in 2015, before moving to PSG in 2021. He wore several shirt numbers in Paris but will now don the No.25 jersey at City.

The number was last worn by Manuel Akanji, who joined Inter Milan on loan earlier today. Other notable former holders include Fernandinho, Joe Hart, Emmanuel Adebayor, and Wayne Bridge.
