A Lagos Magistrate Court has ordered a DNA test on Mohbad’s son, Liam Aloba, following a suit by Joseph Aloba seeking confirmation of the child’s paternity.

The controversy surrounding the family of the late Nigerian music star, Ilerioluwa Oladimeji Aloba, popularly known as Mohbad, has taken a new legal dimension, as a Magistrate Court in Ikorodu, Lagos, has ordered a DNA test to determine the true paternity of the late singer’s son, Liam Aloba.

The ruling was delivered by Magistrate Adefisoye Sonuga following an application filed by Mr. Joseph Aloba, the father of the deceased singer.

In his application, Mr. Aloba prayed the court to order a scientific test that would either confirm or disprove whether young Liam is indeed his biological grandson.

According to the court’s ruling, the DNA test must be conducted at a reputable and accredited medical facility.

The directive further provides that the test can be carried out in Lagos State, at any other location in Nigeria, or even in a recognised medical institution abroad—provided such arrangements are agreed upon by the parties involved.

The court stressed that the integrity of the test must not be compromised and therefore specified that only government-approved or internationally recognised hospitals should be considered for the exercise.

In the legal action, Mohbad’s widow, Mrs. Omowunmi Cynthia Aloba, was named as the sole respondent.

The application was filed pursuant to Order 8 Rules 1 and 8 of the Family Court of Lagos State (Civil Procedure) Rules 2012, and Order 9 Rules 8 and 9 of the Magistrate Courts (Civil Procedure) Rules 2009.

Mr. Aloba’s request also extended to Mohbad’s remains, which are currently preserved at the Military Hospital, Yaba, Lagos.

He urged the court to compel the Chief Medical Officer or the Chief Pathologist at the hospital to extract tissue samples, hair, or any other biological material from the deceased singer.

These samples, according to him, would be used alongside Liam’s DNA to ensure an accurate and scientifically credible outcome.

The order has now set the stage for what could become a decisive moment in resolving the paternity debate that has lingered since the singer’s death.

While many fans and sympathisers have focused on demands for justice over the circumstances of Mohbad’s passing, the issue of Liam’s paternity has also generated widespread discussion and divided public opinion.

By granting the application, the Magistrate Court has placed the matter squarely within the domain of science and medical verification, ensuring that facts, rather than speculation, will guide the resolution.

Mohbad, a rising star in Nigeria’s music industry and a former signee of Marlian Records, died under controversial circumstances in September 2023, sparking protests, investigations, and multiple lawsuits.

His death has remained a subject of national interest, with calls for justice echoing across the entertainment industry and among human rights advocates.

The fresh ruling on Liam’s paternity adds another layer to the unfolding saga, as the results of the DNA test are expected to either lay to rest or further deepen the disputes within the Aloba family.
