Nigerian striker Victor Boniface has completed a loan move from Bayer Leverkusen to Werder Bremen, with the deal running until June 2026; the agreement includes Bremen covering part of the 24-year-old’s salary.
Boniface underwent medicals and finalised all formalities on Deadline Day before being confirmed as Bremen’s new signing.

Key role at Leverkusen
The forward joined Leverkusen in 2023 and made an immediate impact, helping the club win the Bundesliga title with his strength, link-up play and sharp finishing.
“I’m certain he can be a very important factor for us this season,” Bremen coach Horst Steffen said after the deal was announced.

Transfer saga
The move comes after several failed attempts to secure Boniface’s signature in recent months. In January, Al Nassr tabled a reported €70m offer, but turned to Aston Villa’s Jhon Duran instead.
In August, Boniface was close to joining AC Milan, but the transfer collapsed after concerns were raised during his medical.

Leverkusen, meanwhile, have seen an exodus of key figures this summer, with Florian Wirtz, Granit Xhaka, Jonathan Tah, Jeremie Frimpong and coach Xabi Alonso all leaving the club.
Injury concerns
The Nigerian international has struggled with fitness in recent years, including recurring knee issues and a muscle injury that forced him out of the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations.

He only returned to full training last week and was left out of Leverkusen’s squad for their 3-3 draw with Bremen, which further fuelled speculation about his future before the deal was finalised.
