NDLEA Kano Command seized 8,000 bottles of Akuskura and 48 blocks of Cannabis, arresting a suspect along Zaria–Kano highway during routine inspection.

The Kano State Strategic Command of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has successfully intercepted a large shipment of suspected narcotics, including 8,000 bottles of Akuskura—a herbal mixture believed to contain illicit substances—and 48 blocks of Cannabis sativa.

The operation underscores the agency’s ongoing efforts to curb drug trafficking across northern Nigeria.

In a statement released on Tuesday, the Command’s Public Relations Officer, Sadiq Muhammad Maigatari, disclosed that a 37-year-old suspect, identified as Ali Muhammad, was arrested in connection with the seizure.

The arrest followed a thorough operation conducted along the Zaria–Kano highway at Gadar Tamburawa, a known transit route for commercial goods.

Maigatari revealed that the interception took place during a routine stop of a trailer transporting goods from Lagos to Maiduguri.

“The trailer was fully loaded with Tricycles (Keke Napep), and the illicit substances were carefully concealed between the tricycles and beneath a wooden cover designed to hide the items.

“Our operatives were able to uncover the concealed drugs through meticulous inspection and dedication to their duties,” he explained.

The seized consignment and the suspect are now in the custody of the NDLEA, where they will undergo detailed investigation.

Laboratory analysis has been initiated to determine the precise composition of the herbal mixture and to confirm whether it contains prohibited substances.

The outcome will help the agency strengthen ongoing intelligence and enforcement efforts against drug trafficking networks.

The NDLEA also called on members of the public to remain vigilant, urging citizens to report any suspicious consignments, unusual activities, or potential drug-related operations to the nearest NDLEA office or other law enforcement agencies.

Public cooperation, the agency emphasized, remains critical in the fight against illicit drug trafficking.

This latest seizure is part of the NDLEA Kano Command’s sustained campaign to prevent the circulation of dangerous substances and protect communities from the social and health consequences associated with drug abuse.
