Adamawa police have arrested Isiaka Hassan for the murder of five-year-old Abba Bashiru in Lamurde LGA. Investigation is ongoing, and the accomplice remains at large

The Adamawa State Police Command has arrested a 29-year-old man, Isiaka Hassan, for the shocking and brutal murder of a five-year-old boy, Abba Bashiru, in Tingno, Lamurde Local Government Area.

The crime has sent shockwaves through the local community, raising concerns about the safety of children in the area.

The incident came to light on Saturday, August 30, 2025, when the victim’s mother, Hadiza Bashiru, reported to the police that her son had gone missing.

According to the report, Abba was last seen in the company of Isiaka Hassan. Alarmed by the disappearance, the mother immediately alerted the authorities, prompting a swift response from the police.

SP Suleiman Yahaya Nguroje, the Police Public Relations Officer for Adamawa State, disclosed that operatives, under the leadership of the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) in Tingno, quickly launched an operation to locate and apprehend the suspect.

Acting on intelligence gathered from the mother’s report, the police arrested Hassan and brought him in for interrogation.

During questioning, Hassan reportedly confessed to committing the murder and revealed that he had acted in concert with an accomplice who remains at large.

He admitted that they killed the child and buried his body in a shallow grave.

Acting on this confession, police officers immediately exhumed the body and transferred it to a hospital for a full autopsy, in order to establish the cause of death and collect crucial forensic evidence.

In an official statement, the Adamawa State Police Command explained:
“On 30/08/2025, the Adamawa State Police Command received a report from Hadiza Bashiru of Tingno, Lamurde LGA, that her 5-year-old son, Abba Bashiru, was missing and was last seen with one Isiaka Hassan.

“Following the report, our operatives, led by the Divisional Police Officer in Tingno, swiftly launched an operation and arrested the suspect.

“During interrogation, Hassan confessed to having conspired with another individual, currently at large, to kill the child and bury him in a shallow grave.

“The remains have since been exhumed and taken to the hospital for autopsy.”

The Commissioner of Police, CP Dankombo Morris, Psc(+), has directed the State Criminal Investigation Department (CID) to take over the investigation.

The CID has been tasked with ensuring the apprehension of the fleeing accomplice and gathering all necessary evidence to prosecute the suspect to the fullest extent of the law.

The police command also reassured members of the public of its commitment to maintaining law and order and ensuring justice is served.

SP Nguroje appealed for continued public cooperation, stressing that community support is vital in the fight against violent crimes.

This tragic incident has once again highlighted the importance of vigilance among parents and guardians in protecting children.

Authorities urge residents to report any suspicious activity promptly, emphasizing that prompt action can often prevent such heinous crimes.
