Aston Villa have agreed a deal to sign Manchester United winger Jadon Sancho on loan for the 2025/26 season.

Villa will pay a loan fee as well as 80 per cent of the 25-year-old’s wages during his stay at Villa Park, Sancho is in the final year of his contract at Old Trafford, though United retain the option to extend it by a further 12 months.

Signed by United from Borussia Dortmund for £73m in 2021, Sancho has endured a difficult spell in English football.

He spent last season on loan at Chelsea but returned to Old Trafford early after the London club activated a £5m penalty clause to avoid making the deal permanent. Attempts to renegotiate his salary broke down, leaving Sancho back on the market this summer.

Should the deal be finalised, Sancho would follow a similar path to Marcus Rashford, who revitalised his career on loan under Unai Emery at Villa last season before earning a move to Barcelona and a recall to the England squad.

Sancho registered three goals and four assists in 31 appearances at Chelsea last term, a modest return in Enzo Maresca’s heavily rotated side.

At Villa, he is expected to enjoy more consistent minutes, the chance to play in Europe, and the guidance of a manager renowned for reviving players’ careers.

While Sancho’s long-term future remains uncertain, the move is seen as an opportunity for all parties to find a positive solution.
