Manchester United have reached a full agreement with Real Betis to sell Antony for a fee worth up to €28 million.

The Brazilian winger, who impressed during a loan spell with the Spanish side last season, is set to return to the Benito Villamarín on a permanent basis.

According to The Athletic’s correspondent, David Ornstein, Betis initially pushed for another loan deal but have now agreed to pay an initial €25m package, with add-ons potentially raising the figure to €28m. United will also retain a 50% sell-on clause.

Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano reports a slightly different structure, stating Betis will pay €22m upfront plus €3m in add-ons.

United thought they had a deal in place with Real Betis to sell on Friday, only for Betis to issue a statement that said they were withdrawing their offer.

The deal broke down because Antony, 25, wanted part of his United contract to be paid off.

Discussions continued over the weekend to try and break the impasse and United sources said that has happened, with Antony now clear to have a medical.

Antony enjoyed a productive stint in La Liga last term, scoring nine goals and providing five assists in 26 appearances.

His return had been in doubt due to wage reduction negotiations, but an agreement has now been reached, with United confirming they will not subsidise his salary.

The deal makes Antony only the second permanent departure from Old Trafford this summer, following Alejandro Garnacho’s €46.2m switch to Chelsea.

United have also loaned Marcus Rashford to Barcelona, Jadon Sancho to Aston Villa and Tyrell Malacia to Elche in late Deadline Day exits.

Meanwhile, Ruben Amorim’s side have also agreed deal to sign Belgian goalkeeper Senne Lammens from Royal Antwerp as a potential replacement for André Onana, who is yet to feature in the Premier League this season and came under fire for his display in United’s shock Carabao Cup defeat to Grimsby Town.
