The Israeli-Palestinian conflict has taken a dire turn, with Israel intensifying its attacks on Gaza City, resulting in widespread destruction and displacement.
According to reports, at least 77 Palestinians have been killed across Gaza, including 47 people in northern Gaza City, as the military pushes ahead with its campaign to seize the city and displace approximately one million people living there.
Eyewitness accounts describe the situation on the ground as “mayhem and chaos.” Al Jazeera’s Hani Mahmoud, reporting from Gaza City, witnessed the aftermath of an Israeli strike that tore apart an apartment block, killing at least seven people and wounding several others, including children. “Many children were wounded.
They arrived at the hospital fully soaked in their own blood. We saw one child transferred to the hospital who had the flesh of others who were wounded sticking to his back.”
The Israeli military’s relentless bombardment has forced families to flee their homes, often multiple times, in search of safety.
Mohamed Maalouf, a 50-year-old displaced from the northern Gaza town of Beit Lahiya, lamented, “We are thrown in the streets, like what would I say? Like dogs? We are not like dogs.
Dogs are [treated] better than us.” Mirjana Spoljaric Egger, head of the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC), condemned Israel’s offensive, stating that the mass evacuation of Gaza City is “unfeasible and incomprehensible” due to the widespread destruction of civilian infrastructure and extreme shortages of essential supplies.
The humanitarian crisis in Gaza continues to worsen, with famine affecting 500,000 people in Gaza governorate, according to the Rome-based Integrated Food Security Phase Classification Initiative (IPC).

The UN has officially declared a famine in Gaza, blaming the “systematic obstruction” of aid by Israel during the ongoing conflict. Gideon Levy, a columnist with Israeli news outlet Haaretz, described Israel’s plan for Gaza as “outrageous” and amounting to ethnic cleansing.
Despite growing global condemnation, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s government has shown no signs of halting the military offensive.
Critics argue that Israel will only stop its actions if the United States applies pressure. Rubi Chen, father of Israeli captive Itay, drew comparisons between Israel’s war on Gaza and the US’s war in Vietnam, emphasizing the need for a diplomatic agreement to achieve peace.
The situation in Gaza is dire, with:
- Death Toll: At least 77 Palestinians killed in recent Israeli attacks
- Displacement: Approximately one million people forced to flee their homes
- Humanitarian Crisis: Famine affecting 500,000 people, with widespread destruction of infrastructure
- International Condemnation: Growing criticism from global leaders and human rights organizations
- US Involvement: Billions of dollars in military assistance provided to Israel, with calls for pressure to halt the offensive

The international community remains divided on the issue, with some countries calling for sanctions against Israel and others supporting its actions.
As the conflict continues, the humanitarian situation in Gaza will likely deteriorate further, emphasizing the need for a peaceful resolution.
