President Tinubu congratulates Engineer Olayinka Babalola on his election as Rotary International President for 2026/2027, inspiring Nigerians worldwide.

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has warmly congratulated Engineer Olayinka Hakeem Babalola on his election as President of Rotary International for the 2026/2027 calendar year, describing the achievement as a historic milestone for both Nigeria and Africa.

Engineer Babalola, a prominent member of the Rotary Club of Trans Amadi, Port Harcourt, was elected to the top leadership position by the Rotary International Board of Directors following the resignation of SangKoo Yun due to health reasons.

He is set to officially assume office on July 1, 2026, becoming only the second African and Nigerian to lead the global humanitarian organization since its founding over 120 years ago.

In a statement released by the President’s spokesman, Bayo Onanuga, President Tinubu hailed Babalola’s long-standing commitment to professional excellence and humanitarian service.

He noted that Babalola’s elevation reflects decades of dedication through both the Nigerian Society of Engineers and Rotary International, as well as his extensive philanthropic work that has touched the lives of many, strengthened communities, and advanced peace, social progress, and human dignity.

The president emphasized that Babalola’s appointment is a source of national pride and an inspiration to Nigerians, particularly the younger generation, demonstrating that dedication, integrity, and a commitment to service can propel individuals to positions of global influence and leadership.

President Tinubu expressed confidence that Babalola would leverage his new role to further humanitarian causes, foster international partnerships, and promote the enduring values of Rotary International, which include service above self, ethical leadership, and community development.
