Emma Stone captivated audiences at the 82nd Venice International Film Festival with her commanding presence and candid revelations during the premiere of her latest film, Bugonia.

Directed by Yorgos Lanthimos, the film delves into a darkly comedic narrative that challenges perceptions of reality and identity.

Emma Stone’s return to Venice follows her previous success with Poor Things, which garnered critical acclaim and multiple awards.

In Bugonia, she portrays Michelle Fuller, a high-powered CEO who becomes the target of two conspiracy theorists convinced she’s an alien intent on destroying Earth.

The film, an English-language remake of the 2003 South Korean cult classic Save the Green Planet!, features a stellar cast including Jesse Plemons, Alicia Silverstone, and Aidan Delbis.

The Venice premiere was met with a 6.28-minute standing ovation, underscoring the film’s impact on audiences.

During the press conference, Stone was asked about her character’s belief in extraterrestrial life.  In response, she shared her personal belief in aliens, citing renowned astronomer Carl Sagan’s perspective that it’s “pretty narcissistic” to assume humans are the only intelligent beings in the universe.

This candid admission resonated with many, highlighting the film’s exploration of themes beyond its satirical narrative.

To embody her character, Stone underwent a significant physical transformation, shaving her head for a pivotal scene where her character is forcibly shaved by a conspiracy theorist played by Jesse Plemons.

Emma Stone revealed that the decision was emotionally charged, as it reminded her of her mother’s cancer treatments.

For the premiere, Stone donned a custom Louis Vuitton gown featuring a modern twist on the Y2K bubble hem trend.

The dress, paired with minimalistic jewelry and a sleek hairstyle, complemented her bold performance, making a statement both on and off the screen.

Bugonia is set to be released in cinemas on November 7, 2025.

With its unique blend of satire, science fiction, and social commentary, the film is poised to be a significant contender in the upcoming awards season.

Stone’s performance, combined with Lanthimos’s direction, promises to deliver a thought-provoking cinematic experience.
