Mandillas street incident in Lagos leaves one dead as police arrest suspect. Normalcy restored, residents urged to continue daily activities without fear.

A deadly confrontation in the Mandillas area of Lagos Island on Wednesday ended with the death of a man and the arrest of another.

The Lagos State Police Command has confirmed that Ebuka Adindu was taken into custody after allegedly stabbing Sodiq Ibrahim during the altercation.

The incident first caught public attention through a social media post from a local user, who described a chaotic scene unfolding in the streets.

While initial reports suggested that multiple people were involved in indiscriminate violence, the police moved swiftly to correct the narrative.

Benjamin Hundeyin, the police spokesperson, reassured Lagos residents that the situation was under control.

He explained that contrary to circulating claims, there was no widespread outbreak of street violence.

“The streets are safe. DPOs Lion Building and Ebute-Ero are currently on the ground with their men, maintaining the restored peace.

“Also, the suspect has been arrested and is in custody for further necessary actions,” he said.

Further clarifying the events, Hundeyin emphasised that the conflict was unrelated to ethnicity or tribal tensions.

According to the police, the fight involved a small group of hoodlums and escalated when Adindu reportedly stabbed Ibrahim.

In the course of the struggle, Adindu also injured himself and was taken to the hospital under police supervision. Once medically cleared, he will face prosecution.

Authorities confirmed that no other lives were lost, no bystanders were harmed, and no property in the bustling Balogun Market area was damaged.

Normal activities have since resumed, and the public has been encouraged to continue with their daily routines without fear.

Quoting the Lagos State Commissioner of Police, Olohundare Jimoh, Hundeyin called on residents to remain calm and law-abiding.

“Lagos is a peaceful city, and the public’s cooperation is essential in maintaining that peace. Spreading rumours only undermines the efforts of law enforcement,” he noted.

The police continue investigating the fight’s circumstances, assuring the community that justice will be served while maintaining public safety.
