Police in Jigawa arrest a 25-year-old man, Jibrin Ado, for allegedly killing his mother after accusing her of witchcraft. Accomplices remain at large.

The Jigawa State Police Command has arrested a 25-year-old man, Jibrin Ado, for allegedly conspiring with others to attack and kill his own mother, after accusing her of engaging in witchcraft.

The unfortunate event occurred on Tuesday, August 26, 2025, around 4:30 p.m. at Daneji village, located in the Ringim Local Government Area of Jigawa State.

According to eyewitness accounts, Jibrin, alongside four accomplices identified as Musa Kwalle, Dan Abba, Sule Musa, and one Arrow, all residents of Gerawa village, forcefully entered the residence of his father, Adamu Saleh.

Upon gaining access, the suspects descended on Saleh’s wife, 50-year-old Magajiya Ado, whom they claimed was involved in witchcraft.

Armed with heavy sticks, the attackers reportedly beat her repeatedly until she collapsed and became unconscious.

Sources disclosed that neighbors who witnessed the assault rushed the badly injured woman to the General Hospital in Ringim in an effort to save her life.

Despite the intervention of medical personnel, Magajiya Ado succumbed to the injuries sustained during the brutal attack. Her remains were later released to her family for burial in accordance with Islamic rites.

Confirming the development, the Jigawa State Police Command stated that the principal suspect, Jibrin Ado, has been taken into custody, while his accomplices managed to flee the scene and are currently at large.

Security analyst Zagazola Makama, who also reported the case, said law enforcement operatives have since launched a manhunt to track down the remaining suspects.

The police further assured residents that justice will be served, stressing that no one has the right to take the law into their own hands, especially through jungle justice based on superstition and unproven claims.

The incident has drawn condemnation from community stakeholders and rights advocates, who decried the growing trend of violence linked to witchcraft accusations in rural communities.

They emphasized that such acts not only violate the law but also endanger vulnerable individuals, particularly women and the elderly, who are often the targets of such claims.

Authorities have urged the public to shun harmful traditional beliefs and report suspicious activities to the appropriate security agencies instead of resorting to mob action.
