Ezinne Kalu joins Wuhan Shengfan ahead of 2025/26 WCBA season

D’Tigress guard Ezinne Kalu has signed for Wuhan Shengfan in the Women’s Chinese Basketball Association (WCBA) ahead of the 2025/26 campaign.

The four-time FIBA Women’s AfroBasket champion continues her career in China after a standout 2024/25 season with Zhejiang, where she averaged 21.5 points, 4.2 rebounds, 3.8 assists, and 2.5 steals across 33 league games.

Kalu, 33, was instrumental in Nigeria’s triumph at the 2025 AfroBasket in Ivory Coast, helping D’Tigress clinch a record fifth consecutive title and secure a ticket to the 2026 FIBA Women’s Basketball World Cup.

A globetrotting career

Kalu’s decorated career has taken her across Europe and Asia, she has previously played for Landerneau (France), Stars (Germany), Vasas Akademia (Hungary), Roma (Italy), Portuguese sides Olivais and Clube Desportivo Torres Novas, Dynamo Kursk (Russia), and Kayseri (Turkey), before joining Zhejiang in 2024.

Her individual honours include being named MVP at the 2019 AfroBasket in Senegal and a spot on the Eurobasket.com Italian Serie A1 All-Imports Team in 2024.

Olympic pedigree

Kalu was also part of Nigeria’s squad at the Paris 2024 Olympic Games, where D’Tigress reached the quarter-finals in the basketball event — underlining her importance to the national team on the global stage.

Now set for a new challenge, Kalu will bring her scoring ability, defensive tenacity, and vast international experience to Wuhan Shengfan as the club targets domestic glory in the Chinese league.
