RATTAWU BCOS Kunle Hamzat Union Hall commissioned as a landmark legacy, symbolising unity, progress, and workers’ solidarity in Oyo State.

A new chapter in workers’ history was opened today, Tuesday, August 26, 2025, as the Broadcasting Corporation of Oyo State (BCOS) Chapter of the Radio, Television, Theatre and Arts Workers’ Union of Nigeria (RATTAWU) officially commissioned its first-ever union hall.

The commissioning ceremony, held within the BCOS premises, was a colourful and well-attended event that brought together dignitaries, union leaders, and stakeholders from across Oyo State.

Declaring the hall open, Prince Emeka Kalu praised the BCOS chapter for blazing the trail, noting that the project symbolised unity, resilience, and progress.

He urged members to use the hall as a centre for empowerment, solidarity, and promoting arts and culture in Nigeria.

In his remarks, the Chairman of RATTAWU BCOS Chapter, who spearheaded the vision for the edifice, described the hall as a “landmark achievement” and a lasting legacy for the corporation’s workers.

He expressed heartfelt gratitude to the union’s leadership, BCOS management, and all individuals who contributed to bringing the dream to life.

At the event, the Guest Speaker, Olooye Adegboyega Taofeek Adegoke (FCA), Chairman/CEO of Solutions FM, gave an inspiring keynote lecture titled “Leadership at a Time Like This.” He encouraged media professionals to lead with integrity, humility, effective communication, and a coaching spirit.

“Leadership is not just about holding a position,” he said. “It’s about building relationships, making an impact, and inspiring growth in others. True leaders raise more leaders.”

Delivering his royal goodwill message, Oloye Lekan Alabi applauded the initiative, calling it a monumental stride in the history of RATTAWU and BCOS. He emphasised that the hall would serve as a rallying point for unity, creativity, and professional advancement.

Speaking on behalf of his family, Oriyomi Hamzat, founder of Agidigbo FM, expressed deep gratitude for the honour given to his late father.

“This recognition is bigger than my family alone,” he noted. “It’s a reminder that journalism is a service to the people—and those who serve with distinction will always be remembered.”

The Executive Chairman of BCOS, Chief Dotun Olaitan, commended the RATTAWU BCOS Chapter for its foresight and assured the union of management’s unwavering support in promoting staff welfare and institutional progress.

Also, the General Manager of BCOS, Mr. Adegoke Adelakun, hailed the hall as a beacon of solidarity and progress that would continue to inspire future generations of workers.

In his remarks, Comrade Abiodun Olanlokun, revered as one of the fathers of the labour movement in the state, congratulated the union for achieving what he termed “a bold and exemplary milestone,” urging members to maximise the hall for unity and growth.

Olanlokun further recalled the efforts of past leaders, noting that Comrade Kola fulfilled a vision that was initiated during the tenure of Barrister Femi Popoola, while also commending Comrade Kayode Olagunju for his pivotal role in securing the land that made the project possible.


The commissioning ceremony was enlivened with cultural displays, goodwill messages, and an inspection of the new facility, leaving members and guests alike with pride and admiration.

On hand to grace the occasion were the Royal Father of the Day, Oloye Lekan Alabi; the Executive Chairman of Agidigbo, Oriyomi Hamzat, the Executive Chairman of BCOS, Chief Dotun Olaitan; the General Manager of BCOS, Mr. Adegoke Adelakun; elder statesman and union pillar, Comrade Abiodun Olanlokun; members of the RATTAWU State Executive Council, ably led by Com. Kehinde Oloyade, and other distinguished stakeholders and guests.

The inauguration of the RATTAWU BCOS Chapter Hall has been widely described as a turning point symbolising vision, unity, and the unyielding spirit of workers’ solidarity.
