A shocking discovery has rattled Delta State as the Nigerian Medical Association (NMA), Warri Zone, busted an illegal medical centre in Udu, allegedly operating as a baby factory.

The revelation came during one of the association’s routine monitoring exercises, which are regularly carried out to detect quacks and clamp down on unregistered health facilities within the zone.

Confirming the development, Chief Dr. Bright Djebah, Chairman of NMA Warri Zone—covering Warri Metropolis, Uvwie, and Udu—explained in an interview with Daily Independent on Tuesday, August 26, 2025, that the exercise was spearheaded by his executive team.

“This was part of our Excos’ monthly zonal monitoring for medical quacks and unregistered facilities, ably led by me,” Dr. Djebah stated.

The illegal centre, identified as Blessed Gifted Hospital, is situated at 17 Orhuwhorun Road, near Silver Link Hotel in Udu.

During the raid, the self-acclaimed doctor running the facility, Udom Nyakno Reuben, also known as Gift Gab, was arrested alongside an auxiliary nurse who was tending to the babies at the time.

At the point of arrest, four infants were discovered and immediately rescued.

According to Dr. Djebah, the babies were later handed over to security agencies and are now receiving proper care at a secure orphanage home in Asaba.

Following the operation, the suspects were first taken to Ovwian Police Station before being transferred to the Police Force Headquarters in Asaba for further investigations.

Dr. Djebah emphasized the dangers posed by such illegal establishments, stressing that they put both mothers and infants at grave risk.

“These unlicensed centres increase maternal and child mortality rates.

“They endanger not only the lives of unsuspecting patients but also the wider community,” he warned.

He further assured that the NMA is intensifying surveillance and monitoring efforts across Delta State in collaboration with relevant authorities to eliminate quackery.

According to the NMA Chairman, the Executive Assistant to the Governor on Health, Dr. Awunor Alexander, was immediately briefed, which ensured that the incident was escalated to the Delta State Commissioner for Health.

“We are working tirelessly to ensure that medical quacks are flushed out of the state. Our mission is to safeguard lives and protect public health,” Dr. Djebah reaffirmed.

The association also urged members of the public to remain alert and promptly report any suspicious medical facilities to the proper authorities.

The Warri incident comes barely a month after another illegal baby factory was dismantled in Anambra State.

In July, IREPORT247NEWS reported that the Anambra State Government sealed off a notorious centre in Umunya, Oyi Local Government Area, which had been parading itself as Mother and Child Hospital and Maternity.

The unlicensed hospital, located at 1 School Road near Tansian University, was shut down on Saturday after a joint operation involving the Ministry of Health and security operatives.

The raid followed months of surveillance and intelligence gathering aimed at combating human trafficking and medical quackery in the state.

During the operation, 15 individuals were arrested, including five pregnant women and several staff members. Investigators also discovered that the facility had been running on a falsified medical licence.

In a twist, it was revealed that the mastermind of the Anambra centre was a native of Delta State.

Speaking at the scene, the Anambra State Commissioner for Health, Dr. Afam Obidike, expressed deep concern over the horrifying activities taking place behind the walls of the illegal centre.

He confirmed that the facility was being used for unethical and criminal practices including child trafficking, unlawful confinement, and exploitation of vulnerable young girls aged between 15 and 21.
