On Sunday, Israel launched airstrikes on Yemen’s Houthi-controlled capital, Sanaa, killing at least six people and injuring 86 others, with more than 20 in critical condition.

This attack is part of an escalating conflict between Israel and the Houthi rebels, who have been launching drone and missile attacks on Israel in response to its actions in Gaza.

The Israeli military is also moving forward with its plan to seize Gaza city, forcing the population south, and has intensified attacks on large parts of the Zeitoun and Sabra neighborhoods of Gaza City.

This development comes as the humanitarian crisis in Gaza continues to worsen, with UNRWA chief Philippe Lazzarini describing the situation as “hell in all shapes” and stating that famine is the “last calamity” hitting the region.

The conflict has had a devastating impact on civilians, with Israel killing at least 62,622 people and wounding 157,673 in its war on Gaza.

In the midst of this escalating violence, there are concerns about the safety of journalists and media personnel. Israel’s actions have been criticized for deliberately targeting journalists, which is considered a war crime under international law.

The Committee to Protect Journalists has condemned Israel’s killing of journalists in Gaza, including four Al Jazeera staff members and two freelancers who were killed in a targeted strike on a tent used by media near Al-Shifa Hospital in Gaza City.

Sara Qudah, CPJ’s Regional Director, stated, “Israel is murdering the messengers… Israel wiped out an entire news crew. It has made no claims that any of the other journalists were terrorists. That’s murder.

Plain and simple.” This sentiment underscores the gravity of the situation and the need for accountability in protecting journalists and civilians alike.

The conflict’s impact extends beyond immediate casualties, with long-term effects on infrastructure, healthcare, and the overall well-being of the affected populations.

The international community continues to grapple with finding a resolution to the conflict, which has resulted in significant human suffering and loss of life.
