The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has distanced itself from the recent activities of one of its former employees, Mr. Olakunle Alex Folarin, who was dismissed from the agency for presenting forged certificates.

Folarin, who had worked as a driver at the EFCC’s Ibadan Zonal Directorate, came under public attention after appearing on a matchmaking programme hosted by entertainer, Lege Miami, on social media.

The agency described his participation in the online show as embarrassing and misleading, especially since he still had in his possession items belonging to the commission.

Investigations carried out internally had earlier confirmed that Folarin forged the academic documents he used to secure employment with the anti-graft body.

Following this discovery, he was dismissed in line with the EFCC’s disciplinary procedures, which emphasise integrity and accountability.

Despite his sack, the commission said Folarin refused to return official property, including his identity card, which could create the impression that he was still an EFCC operative.

This development prompted the agency’s chairman, Mr. Ola Olukoyede, to order his arrest and recovery of all outstanding items.

“The EFCC will not tolerate any action that undermines its image or deceives members of the public.

“The conduct of Olakunle Folarin after his dismissal is purely personal and should not be mistaken as having any link with the commission,” the agency stated.

Officials further explained that retaining EFCC identification after dismissal is a serious offence that can be exploited to impersonate operatives, mislead unsuspecting citizens, and erode trust in the commission’s work.

Members of the public were therefore cautioned against associating with Folarin or attributing his post-service behaviour to the agency.

The EFCC restated its commitment to sanitising its workforce and holding even its staff accountable whenever acts of fraud, dishonesty, or professional misconduct are discovered.
