Victor Boniface’s proposed switch to AC Milan has hit a major stumbling block after medical examinations raised fresh concerns over the striker’s right knee.

The 24-year-old Nigerian completed tests on Friday, but Italian reports suggest Milan doctors ordered further checks after identifying an issue.

The Rossoneri are now pushing for a reduction in Bayer Leverkusen’s €30m valuation — initially structured as a €5m loan with a €25m option to buy — while weighing up alternative targets.

Club director Igli Tare confirmed the cautious approach, saying:

“We are checking Victor Boniface’s medical. His football skills are excellent, but we need to take the right decision. We will make a final decision soon with our coach, Max Allegri.”

Milan’s hesitation stems from Boniface’s injury record, which includes two anterior cruciate ligament operations and recurring groin issues.

After initial checks at the Centro Ambrosiano, further scans at the Galeazzi Orthopaedic Institute prompted additional scrutiny.

While Nigerian journalist Buchi Laba claimed Boniface “passed his medicals” after three separate tests, meanwhile transfer expert Fabrizio Romano reported that Milan’s orthopaedic team would deliver a final verdict within 24 hours.

Belgian reporter Sacha Tavolieri went further, warning the deal is now “at real risk” of collapsing.

The uncertainty has already seen Milan explore alternatives, with Sporting’s Conrad Harder, Manchester United’s Rasmus Højlund, Chelsea’s Nicolas Jackson, and Monaco’s Breel Embolo all under consideration.

Boniface, who scored consistently in the Bundesliga over the past two seasons, had been identified as a key reinforcement for Allegri’s attack.

However, this is not the first time Serie A clubs have cooled on him — Roma reportedly rejected a proposed swap involving Artem Dovbyk earlier this summer, citing doubts over the Nigerian’s fitness after a string of muscle problems last year.

For now, Milan must decide quickly whether to proceed or walk away, leaving Boniface’s Serie A dream hanging in the balance.
