Pregnant woman brutally murdered, husband’s brother arrested

The Temidire community in Ilorin, Kwara State, has been thrown into shock and mourning following the gruesome murder of a 39-year-old pregnant woman, Mrs. Esther Enemo, whose dismembered body was discovered on Thursday, August 21, 2025.



According to the Kwara State Police Command, the horrific incident came to light after a distress call was placed around 9:00 a.m. by a concerned resident who suspected foul play at the residence of Mr. Ekene Enemo, the husband of the deceased.

Responding swiftly, detectives from the Command stormed the area to investigate the report.

Upon arrival, officers discovered the mutilated remains of Mrs. Enemo dumped in a bush behind her home.

A subsequent search of the surroundings led to the shocking recovery of additional body parts, which had been stuffed into a sack and abandoned beneath a nearby community bridge.

Police investigations immediately pointed to a prime suspect, 29-year-old Mr. Sylvester Enemo, the younger brother of the victim’s husband.

Eyewitnesses revealed that Sylvester was seen leaving the compound just moments before the body was discovered.

He was promptly apprehended and is now in custody. Meanwhile, the husband, Mr. Ekene Enemo, has also been invited by the police for questioning to clarify his knowledge of the incident.

Confirming the case in a statement on Saturday, August 23, the Public Relations Unit of the Kwara State Police Command described the event as a “tragic and deeply disturbing crime.” The statement read in part:

“At about 0900hrs on Thursday, 21st August 2025, a resident of Temidire community reported a suspected foul play within the home of one Mr. Ekene Enemo. A team of detectives, acting on the report, discovered the dismembered body of Mrs.

“Esther Enemo, aged 39, in the bush behind her residence. Further search led to the recovery of other parts of her body concealed in a sack and dumped beneath a community bridge.

“A suspect, one Mr. Sylvester Enemo (aged 29), younger brother to the victim’s husband, was seen leaving the house shortly before the discovery. He has since been arrested.

“The husband, Mr. Ekene Enemo, has also been contacted for necessary clarification. The remains of the deceased have been evacuated to the University of Ilorin Teaching Hospital morgue for autopsy.”

The Commissioner of Police, CP Ojo Adekimi, PSC, MNIPS, has ordered a full-scale investigation into the killing, assuring the public that the Command will pursue every lead until justice is served.

He urged residents to avoid spreading rumors that could cause unnecessary panic, while appealing for calm and cooperation as the police intensify their probe.

“The Kwara State Police Command regrets the unfortunate incident and reassures the public of its commitment to unravelling the circumstances behind the crime. We are determined to bring all perpetrators to justice.

“Security measures across the state have been reinforced to safeguard lives and property, and we urge residents to support the police with credible information that can aid ongoing investigations,” the statement added.

The gruesome murder has left the Temidire community in fear and disbelief, with residents demanding swift justice for the slain woman and her unborn child.
