The Federal Government has vowed that the killers of worshippers in Malumfashi Local Government Area of Katsina State will face swift justice, assuring Nigerians that such acts of terror will never be allowed to fester in the country.

IREPORT247NEWS reported that the tragic incident occurred in the early hours of Tuesday, August 19, 2025, when armed bandits stormed a mosque in Unguwan Mantau, a farming community in Malumfashi.

The assailants struck during the Fajr (dawn) prayers, opening fire on worshippers without warning.

No fewer than 13 people lost their lives instantly, while several others sustained serious injuries. The attack plunged the peaceful community into deep mourning.

Eyewitnesses recounted the terrifying moment the bandits invaded the mosque and began shooting indiscriminately at the faithful who had gathered for prayers.

Survivors described the killings as gruesome and inhuman, leaving behind a trail of sorrow and fear.

Reacting to the development, the Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, strongly condemned the killings, describing them as callous, barbaric, and unacceptable.

He disclosed that security forces had already launched a manhunt for the attackers and assured the public that no stone would be left unturned in ensuring they are captured and punished.

“The Federal Government has vowed to hunt down and bring to justice the perpetrators of the heinous killing of worshippers in Malumfashi Local Government Area of Katsina State.

“This callous and barbaric attack on harmless citizens who had gathered in peace to worship is a crime that must not go unpunished,” Idris said.

He further emphasized that the government remains resolute in its fight against insecurity, warning that criminals who shed innocent blood will find no hiding place within Nigeria.

According to him, the Tinubu-led administration will ensure justice is swift, decisive, and uncompromising.

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, through the Minister, extended heartfelt condolences to the families of the victims, the community of Malumfashi, and the Katsina State Government.

“Their grief is our grief, and the Government stands with them at this dark hour.

“May the Almighty grant the departed eternal rest and console the bereaved with the fortitude to bear this painful loss,” the statement added.

The Federal Government also highlighted recent breakthroughs in counter-terrorism operations as evidence of its determination to end violent extremism in the country.

Only days ago, Nigeria’s National Counter-Insurgency Centre (NCTC) announced the arrest of notorious terrorist leaders, including Mahmud al-Nigeri of the Mahmuda group, his deputy Abu Abba, and Mahmud Muhammad Usman (popularly known as Abu Baraa) of the Ansaru faction.

These high-profile arrests, the government noted, demonstrate the effectiveness of ongoing military and intelligence operations against insurgent networks.

“The capture of these internationally wanted terrorist leaders is proof of the successes being recorded under President Tinubu’s directive that terrorism must be defeated.

“Acts of terror against the Nigerian state and its citizens will soon be a thing of the past,” Idris affirmed.

The Federal Government reiterated its unwavering commitment: “Those who shed innocent blood will find no hiding place in Nigeria.”
