President Bola Ahmed Tinubu departed Yokohama, Japan, on Thursday night, embarking on a journey to Brazil, where he is scheduled to begin a state visit on Sunday, August 24.
According to a statement released by his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, the president’s itinerary includes an ultra-long-haul flight to Brasilia, with a scheduled stopover in Los Angeles, United States, before arriving in the Brazilian capital.
The President’s visit to Brazil follows a productive two-nation working tour that began with his departure from Abuja on August 15.
During this tour, President Tinubu made a strategic stopover in Dubai, United Arab Emirates, before proceeding to Yokohama, Japan, where he arrived on August 18.
The journey is part of Nigeria’s ongoing efforts to strengthen international relations and promote its economic, diplomatic, and cultural interests abroad.
While in Japan, President Tinubu participated in the ninth Tokyo International Conference for African Development (TICAD9), one of the continent’s leading platforms for dialogue on development and cooperation between African countries and international partners.
He attended both the opening ceremony and the plenary sessions on August 20, where he engaged with global leaders, policymakers, and development experts on issues relating to trade, investment, infrastructure, and sustainable development in Africa.
In addition to his participation in TICAD9, President Tinubu held bilateral meetings with several global partners.
These discussions were aimed at deepening Nigeria’s international partnerships, exploring investment opportunities, and promoting collaborative efforts on issues of mutual interest.
He also met with members of the Nigerian diaspora in Japan, engaging in an interactive session on Thursday night to discuss ways to strengthen ties between Nigerians abroad and the development agenda of the country.
Looking ahead, the state visit to Brazil is expected to further consolidate the strategic partnership between Nigeria and the South American nation.
The visit will focus on enhancing bilateral trade, attracting investment, and expanding diplomatic cooperation in areas such as technology, agriculture, energy, and education.
Nigerian officials hope the visit will open new avenues for collaboration and strengthen Nigeria’s global presence while fostering mutually beneficial partnerships with Brazil.
