The Nigerian Correctional Service (NCoS) has been thrown into mourning following the sudden death of one of its gallant officers, Inspector Shabali Adamu, who lost his life in a fatal accident along the Damba–Gusau expressway in Zamfara State.

The incident reportedly occurred on Monday evening when the late officer returned to his home in Kwatarkoshi. He lived with his family in this town after completing his daily official duties in Gusau, the state capital.
The Zamfara State Command’s Public Relations Officer, ASC I Mustapha Abubakar, confirmed the unfortunate development in a statement to the press.
The statement further relayed the condolence message of the outgoing Controller of Corrections in the state, Assistant Controller General (ACG) Alhaji Musa Tanko, who expressed deep shock over the sudden loss.
According to ACG Tanko, Inspector Adamu was a highly disciplined and devoted officer who gave his all to discharge his responsibilities to the Correctional Service and Nigeria.
He described the deceased as a dependable service member who carried out his duties with humility, integrity, and patriotism.
“Inspector Shabali Adamu was a dedicated officer whose service and commitment will remain a reference point in the command.
His passing is a significant loss, not just to his family and colleagues, but to the entire Nigerian Correctional Service,” ACG Tanko said.
On behalf of the Zamfara State Command officers and men, the Controller extended heartfelt sympathy to the late officer’s immediate family, his colleagues at the custodial centre, and the Nigerian Correctional Service community nationwide.
He prayed for the repose of Adamu’s soul and asked God to grant his family and loved ones the fortitude to bear the irreparable loss.
Until his untimely demise, Inspector Adamu served at the Medium Security Custodial Centre (MSCC), Gusau, where he was known for his professionalism, sense of duty, and cordial relationship with superiors and colleagues.
His sudden death has left a vacuum in the command, with many officers describing him as a colleague, friend, and mentor.
The tragic incident adds to the growing concern about the safety of Nigerian roads, particularly in Zamfara and other parts of the North-West, where commuters are often exposed to both accidents and insecurity.
Inspector Adamu is survived by his family, who are now left to grapple with the painful reality of his passing.
